It means slow movement or tardiness.
《說文解字》, a Chinese dictionary, defines 䟂 as slow walking: 走 signals movement, and 曼 gives the sound. Its commentary says 慢 is used instead.
An ancient Guodian Chu text on bamboo strips contains 大器曼成. Scholar Qiu Xigui read 曼 as 䟂/慢; the editors read 晚 (“late”). This disputed reading does not attest the exact glyph.
Use 慢 for ordinary modern Chinese “slow”; reserve 䟂 for historical quotation or character study.
