What 䵹 means
It means “spider.” The Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese dictionary, records 䵹 as a spider name.
The spider character behind 蜘 has an oracle-bone ancestor: a spider on its web, drawn in ancient writing carved on bones and turtle shells. Later forms passed through shapes involving 黽 and 虫. Historical texts also preserve 䵹鼄, 土䵹蛛 and 草䵹蛛, habitat-linked names used across regions called Qin–Jin, Zhao–Wei, Jiangdong and Yan–Korea.
Historical and specialist; 蜘蛛 (“spider”) is the familiar everyday Chinese word.
