What 丅 means
It means “below” or “down”; 下 is the standard form.
An ancestor of 下 appears in Shang dynasty writing as a mark beneath a reference line. Bronze inscriptions, manuscripts, formal writing on seals, and later brush styles changed its shape. 丅 is an old form of 下; 𠄟 is another historical variant.
The same spatial sense extends to lower position, downward movement, and rank. Variant-aware readers may connect 丅 with 下; others may not recognize it.
Historical and typographic, not ordinary modern Chinese writing.
Use 下 in ordinary Chinese; readers unfamiliar with 丅 may not recognize it.

1Questions people ask
1Why does 丅 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
