What 丶 means
It means “dot” and mainly works as a character component.
It is an evolved mark, not a known one-off invention. Documented forms reach back to Western Zhou bronze writing; in the Han-era Shuowen Jiezi, 丶 marks where something ends or where a point must be identified. In the cited oracle-bone examples, related dots mark an object’s position or a small item, while the standalone sign is not shown.
Its job later split. Dictionaries preserve an ancient punctuation use and an old form of 主; Chinese indexing treats 丶 as the dot radical, while Japanese uses it chiefly as a radical. is not a font variant: Unicode lists it separately as the Kangxi Radical Dot.
Technical and reference-oriented: this is a Han character and radical, not a chat reaction.
Do not read it as an emoji or substitute it for the modern ideographic comma.
