What 乓 means
It writes the pong in ping-pong. 乓 is pronounced pāng in Mandarin Chinese and imitates a sharp hit. A Ming-era novel, Journey to the West (西游记), uses 乒乓 for bricks and tiles clattering, and later battle writing repeats 乒乒乓乓 for cannon-like noise.
Modern Chinese also uses 乒乓 for table tennis, short for 乒乓球. 乓 is not an emoji; it is a typed character your font draws, and it almost never stands alone.
Lone 乓 looks unfinished; write 乒乓 or 乒乓球 for the sport.
Do not send lone 乓 when you mean table tennis.
