What 亽 means
Read it as shorthand for 羅. In Korean gugyeol, the marks that helped read Chinese Buddhist texts in Korean, 亽 stood for 羅 and the declarative -lá ending. Its job was grammatical, not pictorial.
By the 1410s–1420s, cargo tags wrote Naju with 亽 to squeeze 羅 into tight space. After 1443, Hangul took over that work, leaving 亽 to dictionaries and old documents.

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
