What 仃 means
Lonely or solitary, chiefly in 伶仃.
In modern Chinese, 仃 appears mainly in 伶仃, not as a standalone everyday word.
The Kangxi Dictionary cites Guangyun, an earlier Chinese dictionary, as equating 仃 with 㣔. Wen Tianxiang’s 1279 poem 過零丁洋 (“Crossing the Lingding Ocean”) names the Pearl River estuary also called 伶仃洋; 零丁 echoes being left alone.
Literary and dictionary-bound; the single character sounds unusual in casual chat.
For “lonely,” use 伶仃; 仃 by itself is not the usual expression.

Questions people ask
1Why does 仃 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
