What 勮 means
The core idea is force applied to a task. Early dictionaries gloss 勮 as 務也, to apply oneself, built from 力, strength, with 豦 as the sound component.
Later lexicons add diligence, swiftness, and fear, while one Zhangzhou Hokkien entry uses it for a shrill or piercing sound. The familiar 劇 uses 刀 where 勮 uses 力, and carries the severity and drama senses.

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
