What 厪 means
厪 is a variant spelling of 廑. The Eastern Han character dictionary 《说文解字》 first defines 廑 as 少劣之居, “a small, poor dwelling.” 廑 combines 广, a building component, with 堇 as a sound cue. The 1671 dictionary 《正字通》 records 厪, written with 厂 on the left.
厪 vs 廑 is a spelling distinction. In later Chinese usage, 廑 was borrowed for 僅 (“only”) and used for 勤 (“diligent”). Ming–Qing Chinese texts include 厪念 and 厪注, formal expressions of earnest concern or remembrance. Use 廑 when following the dictionary headword; retain 厪 when reproducing this variant.

Questions people ask
1Why does 厪 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
