What 吷 means
A faint sound made by blowing.
In Zhuangzi, an ancient Chinese philosophy book, 吹劍首者,吷而已矣 describes blowing through a sword-hilt ring to make a faint sound.
Chu manuscripts preserve its earliest surviving form; Qin bamboo slips and 《說文》 show later writing, including small-seal script, an older Chinese style. 《說文》 lists 吷 as a variant of 歠, “sip” or “drink.” Later dictionaries also record a bird call and a dialect word for scolding.
Rare literary vocabulary, found in classical texts and dictionaries.
If someone sends you 吷 alone, ask whether they mean a classical passage.

1Why does 吷 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
