What 嬽 means
It describes gentle beauty and soft, graceful bearing.
The early history of 嬽 reaches back to a bamboo slip from Baoshan in the ancient Chinese state of Chu, from around 316 BCE. A seal form is also recorded in the Han era, when the history Book of Han uses 嬽嬽 for supple, delicate bearing. Later dictionaries preserve the graceful, soft sense.
The Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese dictionary of characters, analyzes 嬽 as 女 (the meaning component) plus 𡚇 (the sound component).
Literary and archaic; a modern use needs context.
Do not substitute 娟 when transcribing an exact source text.

1Why does 嬽 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
