What 寉 means
It means “crane” in later use, and “high” in older glosses.
A dictionary catalogs an oracle-bone ancestor for it. The medieval Longkan Shoujian glosses 寉 as “high,” an early written word for height. Later dictionaries align it with 鶴; 寉 is the phonetic part inside the longer crane character. Japanese records tsuru and kaku readings.
This is a written-character choice, not an emoji tone.
Keep 寉 when the exact glyph matters; do not silently replace it with 鶴.

1Why does 寉 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
