What 嵿 means
It names a mountain; later dictionaries also give “mountaintop.”
《說文》, an earlier Chinese character dictionary, does not list 嵿; 《玉篇》, a later dictionary compiled around 543, records it as a mountain name.
Later dictionaries also give “mountaintop” and quote 西嵿白云堂; the Kangxi Dictionary retains the mountain-name meaning. 嵿 combines 山 (“mountain”) with 頂; the right-hand part signals the same Mandarin pronunciation as 頂. That structure explains the character, but does not make 嵿 an ordinary substitute for 頂.
What does it mean when someone sends 嵿?
Read it through the surrounding words; alone, it does not settle a meaning.
A Chinese record from the Ming dynasty uses 張嵿 as a personal name. Without context, the character could be a name, a quotation, or the later mountaintop sense.
A literary, name-bound character; hard to interpret alone in a chat.
For the ordinary word “top,” use 頂 or 顶.
