What 庅 means
Read it as variant of 么 and 麼. When you see 什庅 or 怎庅, read shénme and zěnme, just as with 什麼 and 怎麼.
It was a Song–Yuan shorthand for brush economy: 麼 cut to 广 plus 么. The form persists through Ming/Qing prints, which is why dictionaries list it as a variant rather than a typo. If it shows as a box, that is missing font coverage on Windows 10 and older phones, not a different character.
Its sense is grammatical. Early dictionaries gloss 麼 as small, while interrogative -麼 grew from words for thing, through Tang-era 是物 talk of what thing. So 庅 carries no picture meaning: context gives it the question or softening job.
Rare source spelling; standard writing uses 么 or 麼.
Don't use 庅 in chat; keep 么/麼.

Questions people ask
1Why does 庅 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
