What 庿 means
It means “temple” or “ancestral shrine.”
庿 is an old form of 廟, with the same sense; 庙 is the simplified counterpart of 廟. The written form changes, but the basic temple meaning does not.
The Chinese ritual text 《儀禮·士冠禮》 uses 庿 for a temple gate where people performed divination—ritual fortune-telling—to choose a date for a coming-of-age ceremony in which a young man received an adult cap. A Northern Wei stone epitaph (a carved memorial inscription) for Yuan Hui also uses it; the inscription dates his death and burial to Yong'an 3 and Taichang 1.
Archaic and uncommon: it marks a historical or variant spelling.
In modern writing, 庿 may look like a typo; use 廟 or 庙 unless you mean the older variant.

Questions people ask
1Why does 庿 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
