What 廍 means
A site where sugarcane became sugar. In Qing-era Taiwan, a 1717 record lists workshop equipment; a 1722 account describes building a 廍屋, fitting cane crushers and hiring workers.
糖廍 and 蔗廍 name the workshop; 糖間 is where crude sugar was refined. Taiwanese place names preserve former sites: 廍仔 names a settlement; 廍後 means the area behind the workshop.
Regional, historical Taiwanese usage.
Not a generic word for any factory; its established sense is a traditional sugar site.

2Questions people ask
1Why does 廍 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
