What 忬 means
It has two documented variant branches with different readings. A Japanese dictionary manuscript, Shinsen Jikyō, cites the Chinese dictionary Yupian.
Mandarin yù links to 預/豫 (“beforehand”), and shū to 舒/紓 (“relieve, relax”). Japanese entries preserve yo for acting beforehand or being at peace.
Historical and specialist; reading and context determine which branch you mean.
Do not merge the yù and shū branches into one gloss.

1Why does 忬 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
