What 惼 means
It describes a narrow-minded, quick-tempered temperament.
The older recorded form is 褊: the Chinese character dictionary 說文解字 explains it first as narrow clothing, then extends the idea to “small.” Later dictionaries use 惼 for a narrow, irritable disposition. In 惼, 忄 is the left-side heart-and-mind component, while 扁 supplies the sound.
A passage in the Chinese classic Zhuangzi uses 惼心 in its empty-boat lesson: when an empty boat bumps yours, even a quick-tempered person has nobody to blame. Japanese dictionaries also record 惼心 and 惼狭 for this pejorative temperament; 惼狭 is also written 惼狹.
Someone sent me 惼—what are they saying?
They are criticizing someone’s temperament.
Alone, 惼 reads as “small-minded” or “quick to anger,” not as a neutral label for the sender’s annoyance. In a quotation or language discussion, it may simply mention the word.
Written and pejorative; it sounds like a character judgment, not casual shorthand for being annoyed.
Sent alone, it can call someone small-minded and hot-tempered.
