What 拢 means
Think “gather together or close up.” It is built from a hand side plus 龍 for sound: an action done by the hand, not anything about dragons. A checkable early example from the Six Dynasties period is 攏萬川 in the Jiang Fu poem collected in Wenxuan.
From that closing idea it spread: in the Tang period writers used 攏 for arranging hair and gathering reins; in the Northern Song period it also described coiling hair and a plucked-string fingering.
