What 斍 means
Use a Chinese character input method with Pinyin or shape codes. In Pinyin, enter the unmarked input jue or jiao; if neither result includes 斍, try Cangjie YKBUU or Wubi YHQB.
For ordinary simplified Chinese, use 觉; traditional Chinese uses 覺. Reserve 斍 for reproducing a source that spells it this way.
What does 斍 mean?
It shares 覺’s senses of awareness, realization, and waking. 斍 is a historical written variant of 覺, not a separate modern meaning.
The Taiwan Ministry of Education’s variant dictionary records it among popular written forms from the Song–Yuan period. It describes the shape as a handwritten reduction of 覺’s upper part, later recast as 文. Later Ming and Qing printed and copied works show it in contexts of realizing, knowing, and waking.
Historical and old-style; in ordinary modern writing, 斍 reads as nonstandard.
For everyday simplified Chinese, use 觉; 斍 can look like a typo.

Questions people ask
2Why does 斍 show as a box?
It is a font issue. A font without this character can show a box or blank; switch to a font that includes it.
Can I use 斍 instead of 觉?
Usually no. Use 觉 in ordinary simplified Chinese and 覺 in traditional writing; reserve 斍 for a source that uses it or a deliberate old-style effect.
