What 椊 means
A fitted wooden peg or handle; also rotten or brittle wood.
In joinery, this is a tenon: a projecting piece that locks wooden parts together. A Western Han manuscript of the ancient Chinese text Laozi has 柔椊 where the familiar text has 柔脆; there, 椊 is a sound-based stand-in for 脆 (“brittle”). Lexicons link it with 枘, a pillar-end tenon, and 椊杌, a fitted handle or short piece of wood jutting out.

Questions people ask
1Why does 椊 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
