What 榣 means
It describes a tree moving and can name a great tree. The old character dictionary Shuowen Jiezi glosses it as tree movement: 木 on the left points to trees, while 䍃 on the right indicates sound.
Qin-period bamboo slips also use 榣 as a loan for 搖. In “百姓榣貳,” it means the people are wavering or divided. A Qin-period daybook preserves 招榣合日 among its calendrical omen calculations. In the Shan Hai Jing, an old account of mountains and places, 榣木 is described as a great tree whose crown bears 若木, another named tree.
If 榣 appears as an empty box, the font or app cannot display the character; that changes its appearance, not the text that was sent.
Archaic and specialist; it fits classical passages or discussion of older Chinese texts.
For ordinary modern “shake,” write 摇 or 搖.

Questions people ask
1Why does 榣 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
