榨 combines 木, the wood component, with 窄 as a sound cue. Chinese oil pressing is traced to the Han period; later lever and wedge presses improved yield. 《说文解字》 omits 榨; 《玉篇》 records it, and so does a poem from the Song dynasty.
Neutral for materials; accusatory when 压榨 targets people, groups, or resources.
