What 槤 means

Mandarin has two readings for 槤. Lián (roughly “lee-ahn,” with a rising tone) names a southern tree, a side building by a hall, or a door bar; liǎn uses the same syllable with a dipping tone and names a vessel for ritual millet offerings. The earliest evidence is a bronze inscription from the late Spring and Autumn period; later forms appear on Chu and Qin slips, in Shuowen (an early Chinese character dictionary), and in Han clerical script. 槤枷 names a threshing flail, documented in mid-20th-century Taiwan.
