What 檊 means
Mandarin reads 檊 gàn and glosses it as a tree. Dictionaries give 柘 or 檀. 《龍龕手鑑》, a Chinese character dictionary, records it in 997; the later dictionaries 《集韻》 and 《類篇》 also preserve the tree-name gloss.
A handwritten form is a first-tone variant of 杆. Chữ Nôm, the historical Vietnamese writing system, uses 檊 for the sound gán, not the tree meaning; a reference updated 2026-06-29 lists that use.
Alone, it reads like a character sample or dictionary entry.
