What 欯 means
欯's Mandarin pronunciation is xí, roughly “shee” with a rising pitch.
The Eastern Han Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese dictionary compiled around 100 CE, glosses joy and analyzes 欯 as 欠 plus 吉, with 吉 supplying the sound. Later lexicons give kài (“k-eye,” falling tone) for “sound,” list 咭 as a variant, and gloss 欯欯 as joy.
Bookish; use it where the reader knows the character.
Without that familiarity, the laughter may not land.
