What 溦 means
It means drizzle: very light rain.
《說文解字》, a Chinese dictionary compiled during the Eastern Han dynasty around 121 CE, defines 溦 as small rain. 水 signals water; 微 hints at its sound.
Why is 溦 rare in modern writing?
It is marked; 微 is the usual modern form for drizzle.
A Qing-era note by Duan Yucai records this preference.
《爾雅》, an early Chinese glossary, records a separate valley-watercourse reading linked to 湄, “riverbank.”
