What 溲 means
It means urine or urinate; older texts also include stool.
No inventor is known. The Han-era dictionary record gives a water sense — soak, mix, wash — alongside early excretory use, and later dictionaries keep both branches. As of 2026 Japanese references still list urine and soaking, outside the everyday Jōyō set.
Bookish and technical; a 2021 language study calls the waste sense literary — use 尿 or 小便 in ordinary Mandarin.
溲 vs 尿: 尿 is everyday urine; 溺 can also mean drowning.

1Why does 溲 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
