CJK Unified Ideograph 滿

8448/20992

滿 means “full,” “filled,” or “satisfied,” and it can also signal completion or totality. It is the Traditional Chinese counterpart of simplified 满, so the two share the core word but belong to different script conventions. Copy it from the palette above and pick a Traditional Chinese input to get this exact PC-symbol-like traditional glyph.

Text symbol

What 滿 means

It means “full,” “filled,” or “satisfied.” 滿 was built with 氵, the water meaning-side, and 㒼, the sound-side. An early Chinese dictionary defines it as “盈溢”: fullness that spills over. Later usage extends that idea to satisfaction, completion, entirety, reaching a deadline, and speaking too absolutely.

As of 2026, the sources checked do not establish a single inventor or securely dated first specimen. The CUHK character record shows seal-script and manuscript examples but no oracle-bone or bronze entry; a 2025 study of Qin–Han slips traces 滿 alongside 盈. It argues that by the middle-to-late Western Han, 滿 had largely replaced 盈 for “enough/full,” swelling/fullness, and a calendrical term.

Is 滿 the traditional form of 满?

Yes: 满 is the Simplified Chinese counterpart. 滿 is the Traditional Chinese form; 满 is the Simplified form used in Simplified Chinese writing. The core word is related, but script choice matters when you are matching a document, name, or regional convention.

A font can still draw regional glyph details differently. CNS11643’s 2024 record lists source forms for China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam, so a changed stroke does not automatically mean you received the wrong character. The real script mismatch is 滿 versus 满; the font difference is a rendering issue.

How do I type 滿?

Use a Traditional Chinese IME and select 滿. For phonetic input, type mǎn or ㄇㄢˇ and choose the Traditional candidate. For shape input, Cangjie uses ETLB: 水、廿、中、月. The full code identifies the exact glyph by structure.

As of 2026, Microsoft documents Traditional Chinese Bopomofo, ChangJie, and Quick IMEs on Windows. If your candidate list returns 满, switch the output language to Traditional Chinese or select 滿 explicitly; changing the font will not convert one character into the other.

Ordinary written Chinese in Traditional script; it signals script choice, not emoji tone.

Do not mix it into Simplified Chinese text by accident; use 满 there.
