What 漡 means
It describes moving water, with another sense, “to scald.”
The 2024 Taiwan Ministry dictionary says the older Chinese character dictionary Shuowen Jiezi omits 漡. It cites Yupian, a character dictionary compiled in 543, for 水流貌, “flowing water.”
Later dictionaries give Mandarin shāng for flowing water and tàng for “to scald,” and link 漡 to 湯 as an ancient or variant form. Roughly, “shahng” is high and level; “tahng” falls. Context chooses.
Archaic and dictionary-bound.
Alone, 漡 does not choose between its readings.

1Why does 漡 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
