What 澍 means
It means nourishing rain that arrives at the right time. In Mandarin, 澍 names rain falling when plants need water. 澍雨 is a classical phrase for that rain, more specific than generic rain.
A recorded clerical-script form—an official writing style—comes from the Qin dynasty (221–206 BCE). The Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese dictionary compiled around 100 CE, defines 澍 as rain that helps things grow. Its water component 氵 points to the meaning; 尌 is the sound-bearing component.
In classical Chinese, 澍 also works as a verb meaning “to rain” or “to moisten.” 澍濡 carries the moisture sense into favor given or received. A second Mandarin reading is used for 注, “to pour.” Japanese and Korean also have readings for 澍, distinct from Mandarin.
Literary in its rain sense, with the precise idea of rain arriving in season.
Don’t swap it with 霖: one means timely rain, the other prolonged rain.

1Why does 澍 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
