What 澲 means
A large board laid across water. The dictionary gloss is 橫水大版, meaning a large plank laid across water.
The Kangxi Dictionary cites the now-lost Tangyun, a rhyme dictionary that groups characters by similar ending sounds, compiled in 751, for 澲's reading. The surviving Guangyun, compiled in 1007–1008, places 澲 in the rhyme group headed by 業 and gives the same gloss. Taiwan's Ministry of Education says in a 2024 dictionary entry that 澲 is absent from Shuowen, an earlier character dictionary, and cites Guangyun, Jiyun, and later dictionaries.
The written form combines 氵, the water component, with 業, which hints at how 澲 is read. This is a form-and-sound link; it does not give 澲 業's everyday meaning, “industry.”
A rare dictionary character; it stands out in ordinary chat.
