What 炾 means
It means spacious brightness in a classical compound.
《鲁灵光殿赋》, an Eastern Han poem about Lu Lingguang Palace, is the earliest located source: 爌炾 describes the palace as spacious and bright. A 2024 dictionary entry notes 《说文》, an early Chinese dictionary, has no entry for 炾 and glosses it through 爌炾; a Tang dynasty gloss links it to 爣朗, another phrase for spacious brightness. Mandarin huǎng sounds roughly “hwahng,” with a dipping tone; Cantonese fong2 roughly “fong,” with a rising tone.
