What 燓 means
It means “to burn”; 燓 is a written variant of 焚.
Shang oracle-bone inscriptions (writing on bones and turtle shells) show 焚 as 林 (“woods”) over 火 (“fire”), linked to burning woodland for hunting and clearing fields. Later records include bronze inscriptions, bamboo slips from Chu and Qin, and seal and clerical scripts.
