What 燾 means
Read it as broad cover or illumination.
The Shuowen small-seal entry, completed around 100 CE, defines 燾 as broadly covering and illuminating. Its early job was an overarching verb of shelter or light, not a standalone emblem.
Later sources connect it with 幬 for cover and a Zhouli reading of 敦. Dictionaries keep cover, shelter, and carry; in modern Chinese the short form is also used in given names.
Classical in quotation; elsewhere it reads as a specialized name character.
A lone 燾 can look like a typo.

1Questions people ask
1Why does 燾 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
