What 犻 means
It describes a passing dog, hostility, or the act of barking.
The Eastern Han dictionary 《说文解字》 is 犻’s earliest surviving record. It glosses the character as a dog passing by, with 犭 for “dog” and 巿 for sound. Later entries in the Chinese Kangxi Dictionary add an angry-dog sense and link one reading to 吠, the usual “bark” character.
Dictionary-led; its old readings need Chinese-language context.
A blank box may mean your font lacks 犻; the character has not changed.

1Why does 犻 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
