What 狝 means
It names the autumn hunt, a ritual troop exercise. Classical writing divides the hunts into spring 蒐, summer 苗, autumn 狝, and winter 狩, with the 秋狝 military training side made explicit in old commentaries.
狝 origin is an evolved classical word, not a designed modern sign. You meet 獮 vs 狝 as old and compact forms of the same word; 獮 can also carry the extended sense “to kill.” Do not read it as everyday modern Chinese.
Classical and historical-text register; in chat it looks deliberately literary.
Do not use it as a generic hunting emoji.

1Why does 狝 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
