What 玤 means
玤 means a gem considered inferior to jade.
Shuowen Jiezi, a Han dynasty character dictionary presented in 121 CE, preserves a seal-script form, an older style of Chinese writing, and says the stone was used for a 系璧. A later commentary interprets that as a small bi: a flat, ring-shaped stone ornament hung from the belt with other pendants.
Where else does 玤 appear?
玤 is also a place-name in an ancient Chinese chronicle.
In the Zuo Zhuan, an old Chinese chronicle, a ruler of Guo, an ancient state, built a palace at 玤. Dictionary glosses locate the settlement near Mianchi in Henan, so the same character names both a stone and a place.
Specialist and literary: outside a dictionary, old text, or name, 玤 reads as an unfamiliar rare character.
Don't treat 玤 as a generic jade or luck symbol.
