What 瓍 means
It names a legendary pearl.
In the familiar tale, the Marquis of Sui treats an injured snake, and it later repays him with a pearl. 瓍 names that treasure; its longer name is 隨侯之珠, and other names include 隨珠 and 靈蛇珠.
The Zhuangzi, an old Chinese philosophical text, tells the story under the longer name 隨侯之珠. The Mozi and Huainanzi pair the pearl with 和氏璧, another famed treasure; the Chu Ci poetry collection shortens the pair to 隨和. These references make the pearl a literary measure of exceptional worth. 瓍 is a later one-character name, written with 玉, the component for jade.
Classical literary register: the name carries an old allusion to a prized treasure.

1Why does 瓍 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
