What 瘇 means
It means swelling of the leg or foot.
Shuowen Jiezi, a Han-era Chinese dictionary, quotes “既微且尰” from the Classic of Poetry. 瘇 uses 重 instead of 童 as a sound-based spelling. Han writer Jia Yi used 大瘇 for a polity too ill to act; Longkan Shoujian lists 瘇 in 997. Japanese dictionaries record おめあし for lower-leg swelling around 934 and a figurative “predicament” sense in 1793.
Historical Chinese medical term; Japanese dictionaries preserve older senses.
For ordinary Chinese swelling, use 腫 or 肿.

Questions people ask
1Why does 瘇 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
