What 皨 means
It means “star”: 皨 is an old form of 星.
A Taiwan Ministry of Education dictionary cites 皨 in 四聲篇海 and 字彙補. The earliest surviving 四聲篇海, a Chinese dictionary, is a Jin-dynasty printing dated 1212. 字彙補 calls 皨 an ancient form of 星; 曐 and 𠻖 are other old forms. That date marks the surviving book, not 皨’s first appearance.
It reads as archaic; use 星 in ordinary modern writing.

1Why does 皨 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
