What 盝 means
It means “filter” or “drain”; later, it names a lidded case. In the Zhouli, an ancient Chinese ritual text, it is a verb for draining something after ash is cleared.
Tang, Song, and Ming records use it for lidded containers holding cosmetics, seals, books, and daily goods. A 2024 entry in Taiwan's Ministry of Education dictionary of variant characters notes that it is absent from Shuowen, an early Chinese character dictionary.

1Why does 盝 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
