What 盦 means
It names a vessel cover or the covered vessel.
The Shuowen Jiezi, a Chinese dictionary, glosses it as a cover for a vessel. Later lexicons use it for a food container or the lid of a ding, an ancient Chinese bronze vessel. Some dictionaries also record a verb sense: to cover over or bury.
Later use extends it to a round grass hut: 盦 was borrowed as a spelling for the hut or retreat sense also written 庵 and 菴.
What does 盦 mean when someone sends it?
A lone 盦 needs context; ask what word or name it represents. In a sentence about bronze vessels or antique objects, read it as a vessel cover or covered vessel. In a personal, studio, or seal name, the hut sense may be intended.
Fonts can draw its strokes differently. Without a font that includes 盦, a device may show a blank box; that is a display problem, not a different character.
Antiquarian and literary: it belongs more naturally in historical object terms or names than casual chat.
The hut reading needs context; the vessel cover is the dictionary starting point.
