What 盩 means
An early Chinese dictionary glosses it as “draw back and strike.”
It appears on Western Zhou bronze inscriptions.
The county was called 盩厔 from 757 to 1911; it became 周至 in 1964. Older histories explain the name through mountain and water bends; a 2018 local-history article instead suggests it may honor 諸盩, an early Zhou ancestor. That origin is unsettled. Pinyin, Mandarin written in Latin letters, gives 盩 as chóu in 諸盩 and zhōu in 盩厔.
