What 眶 means

眶 is 目 plus 匡, the eye radical plus the sound and old interchangeable form. As of 2026-09-07, the earliest passage I could verify is in the transmitted Liezi, where an arrow reaches the pupil and the 眶 does not move. Use 眼眶 for the anatomy and 热泪盈眶 for brimming tears; alone, 眶 is not crying. Display is separate: as of 2026-09-07, one Japanese reference flags it environment-dependent, while Taiwan's CNS registry documents a Windows 10+ glyph.
