What 瞿 means
Its literary sense is startle; the old gloss describes a hawk’s gaze.
The Shuowen Jiezi, an early Chinese dictionary, analyzes 瞿 as 䀠 (“eyes”) plus 隹 (“bird”), evoking a hawk’s gaze. 瞿然 uses jù for someone startled, frightened, or suddenly awakened; a Japanese dictionary cites it in a 758 document from Nara’s Shōsōin imperial repository. Chinese names use qú, as in 瞿秋白. In Mandarin Pinyin, j is a light ch without a strong puff and q a breathier ch; ü is “ee” with rounded lips. jù falls in tone; qú rises.

Questions people ask
1Why does 瞿 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
