What 砙 means

It appears in a Chinese term for “large brick.”

An entry checked 2026-09-11 by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education says 砙 is absent from Shuowen, an early Chinese dictionary, and cites 𥕿砙 in Zihui Bu, a later dictionary. The Kangxi Dictionary repeats 𥕿’s large-brick gloss and links it to 㽃.

A community dictionary checked 2026-09-11 records 砙 in Sawndip, a writing system used for Zhuang, with the glosses “bottle” and “vax.” Historical texts also preserve 砙堂寺 as a temple name; these are tradition-specific uses.

The reading depends on language and context.

Do not assign the brick gloss to every context.

Why does 砙 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
