What 硸 means
Two dictionary senses: grinding or a grindstone; “large lips” in a compound. The first known dictionary entry is in 集韻, a Song dynasty rhyme dictionary completed in 1039; it glosses 硸 as “to grind” or “a grindstone.” 康熙字典, a later Chinese character dictionary completed in 1716, carries both senses forward, so the records show coexistence rather than a documented change.
A 2024 entry from Taiwan’s Ministry of Education notes that the earlier Chinese character dictionary 說文 does not record 硸.
How do I type 硸?
Use a Chinese-character input method or a Unicode-aware tool. Cangjie is a Chinese-character input method; the Taiwan CNS11643 record from 2024 lists MRUMJ for 硸. Unicode-aware input tools can use U+7878; HTML source can use 硸 or 硸.
That 2024 record says Windows 10 and later include 硸 in default fonts. If it appears as an empty box, your current font lacks its glyph; switch to a font that covers this character.
It reads as a specialist dictionary character, not conversational wording.
Alone, it can look like a typo.
