What 磍 means
Its meaning changes with its word. In the Western Han fu 長楊賦 (poetic prose) attributed to Yang Xiong, 碣磍之虡 describes a fierce animal carving on a stand for ritual bells and drums. Here 磍 is read xiá in Mandarin pinyin, roughly “shyah” with a rising tone.
Dictionaries also give separate readings for “to peel” and “uneven stony ground.”
Classical and lexicographic; keep it with its phrase or gloss.
Alone, 磍 does not reliably mean “angry.”
