What 磒 means
Its core sense is a stone falling from above.
The Han period dictionary Shuowen Jiezi quotes a line associated with China's Spring and Autumn period: 磒石于宋五, “five stones fell at Song.” 石 points to stone; 員 hints at sound. In later classical writing, 磒虛 means falling into emptiness; transmitted versions of the Song line also use 霣.
Literary and archaic; it preserves a source's wording.
For ordinary Chinese, use 隕/陨.

Questions people ask
1Why does 磒 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
